| Step 1 |
| For the pattern pieces, first draw a series of connected rectangles that are 1" tall by 1-1/2", 1/2", 1-1/2", 1/2", 1/4" wide - in that specific order.
[Metric measurements are: 25.4 mm tall by 38.1mm, 13mm, 38.1mm, 13mm, 6.4mm wide] Mark each width measurement along the large rectangle.
This will form the sides of the bag.
Then draw a second rectangle that is 1" by 2" [25.4mm by 50.8mm] This will make the bottom of the bag. |

| Step 2 |
| Cut out your fabric pieces. Also cut out two pieces of interfacing: one that is just a bit smaller than the large rectangle,
and the other that is approximately 1/2" by 1-1/2" [13mm by 38.1mm]
Cut two 4-1/2" lengths of ribbon for the straps [114.3mm]and set aside.
When your piece are cut out, fold the pattern piece for the bag sides at the width measurements. |
| Step 3 |
| Fuse the large piece of interfacing to bag sides. Place the smaller piece of interfacing in the center of the bag bottom and fuse. |
| Step 4 |
| Using your folded paper patten as a guide, press folds into the fabric for the bag sides. Also press the edges of the bottom 1/4" [6.35mm] all around. |
| Step 5 |
| Coat all of the edges with fray check, or watered-down white glue. Allow to dry. |
| Step 6 |
| Spread some glue onto the 1/4" [6.35mm] flap and glue the sides of the bag closed. Carefully fold and glue the corners of the bottom of the bag inward to create
a box-like shape with raised sides. It should look like the bottom of a rectangular gift box and the sides should fit down inside it. |
| Step 7 |
| Glue the short ends of the sides into the short ends of the bottom. Take a little bit of glue and attach the ends of the ribbon between the sides and the bottom, as in the picture.
Set the ribbon ends in place about 1/4" [6.35mm] from the edges. Run a thin line of glue from the base of the ribbon to the top edge of the bag and press the remaining
loose ribbon in place. Glue the bottom edges of the sides to the bottom of the bag. |
