Make a Picture and Decorate Furniture Using Scraps

This project focus on what can be done with a few leftovers and the art of decopage. The example comes straight out of "Brenna's Nursery" in the Gallery.
These items are for personal use only and not intended for resale. Enjoy!
What you will need:

A decorative gift bag piece leftover from making a room

Furinture you wish to decorate

A scrap of matteboard with part of the back layer peeled off or thick card

Leftover baseboard, moulding, etc

X-acto knife or coping saw and miter box

Paint and paintbrushes; I used a scriptliner and a small brush

Tacky or Sobo glue

Sharp scissors

Modge Podge

Part A, Step 1
The first step after you cut the front from the giftbag for your room is to divide the picture you want to save into usable pieces. If your design is quite large, you should consider using it as part of the wallpaper in your room as a mural if your nursery is modern.
Part A, Step 2
The first project is making a framed picture with a character from the bag front. In this case it is the yellow duck. Trim your scrap of matteboard to size using your image. Make sure you are happy with the way it looks before you cut your matteboard. Next mark lengths of your baseboard that will fit on the matteboard. When I cut mine, I glued the baseboard pieces directly to the matteboard face. If you plan on framing the outer edges, you need to measure accordingly.
Part A, Step 3
Next you should double-check your layout to make sure you are happy with it and use an emoryboard to sand the edges. Then you can begin gluing your frame together; Again, in the case of the sample the frame pieces are glued directly to the matteboard.
Part A, Step 4
When your paint it dry you can glue your character in position. Now your picture is finished.
Part B, Step 1
For this part I used the words from the bag and decorated the hutch. The hutch itself was from Michael's. I primed it with a spray primer and then painted it with acrylic paints. Once the paint was dry I trimmed the paper to fit the hutch and used modge podge to glue it in place. I put about 5 coats of modge podge on top of the paper once it was secured to the hutch.
Part B, Step 2
Here I used the small butterfly from the bag to decorate this store bouht potty chair. It was already white, so I first painted it with the same colors as the hutch. Then I trimmed as close to the edge of the butterfly as I could and glued it to the back of the chair. Again I used about 5 coats of modge podge. When the furniture was completely dry I sprayed it all with a satin finish.
