Let the torrent of crud no one cares about, BEGIN!
Bambi 1, Me 0.
No venison this year. Matt and I both went out, but as we were limited to public land, all we seemed to find were deer trails that led us to right under some other yahoo's treestand. I almost ended up arrowing a squirrel just to break the monotony, but as I've found out in target practice, replacing arrows is expensive and not worth the meat/fur of a squirrel.
Work Work Work
I continue to work, doing just about everything under the sun with an emphasis on .NET programming. I like programming, and have ideas for new stuff to do in my spare time. I should put the effort into getting them done rather than letting them die of loneliness in my head.
Hobbies
Cooking and vidiot games are my hobbies these days (very not healthy). Archery has taken a backseat for the time being. I've been meaning to get back into exercising, but without the over-doing it factor that always seems to follow shortly thereafter. I was doing good lifting and working out in Rolla at the end there, but then I moved and got lazy again.
Diet
The D word, you can't spell diet without die. Everyone I've lived with has generally come to loathe this word when it comes out of my mouth, as it generally means a lack of recipes involving heavy cream, deep frying, and using bacon as a flavoring agent. This was also frequently accompanied by scary workout routines that lasted 2 weeks, leaving me heavier with muscle mass, and just as overweight as before, as well as bitching about the aforementioned. So, I'm giving something different a try. (Guess away, no fair if you know.) We'll see if it turns out or not.
Recipe
Steak with Shrooms and Onion
2 breakfast steaks (sirloin tip steaks in my case)
1/3 -1/2 lb button mushrooms, halved or sliced in thirds
1/2 white onion, sliced
2 tablespoons stone ground mustard
1 cup beef broth
salt & pepper
2 tbs olive oil
2 tbs butter
1) Heat the olive oil in a pan, until it starts to ripple.
2) Season both sides of the steaks with salt, and place it into the pan.
3) Sear both sides of the steak until it is browned.
4) Remove steaks and set aside.
5) Add the butter to the pan and then the mushrooms.
6) Let the mushroom pieces sit until they have become brown and slightly crispy on one side.
7) Flip the shrooms and cook to the same degree on the other side.
8) Remove shrooms and set aside.
9) Add onion slices and cook until soft and caramalized.
10) Remove onions, set with shrooms.
11) In the remaining fat in the pan, add the mustard and beef broth to deglaze, add a few grinds of black pepper as well.
12) Stir until the mustard is evenly distributed in the broth, then reintroduce the steaks and any juice they may have produced.
13) Let the steaks reheat.
14) 1 steak and the rest of the ingredients plate, and serve with pan sauce.
15) Put the remaining steak and pan sauce into a container in the fridge for lunch.
