Food, shelter, and pre-moving

The quick rundown of the past week or so-
My wonderful spouse Kat came up for the week, during which time she devotedly labored over a hot stove, we looked at houses, and she expertly created some elaborate birthday type contrivances for Mr. Allen. (Was that laying it on a bit thick? Probably not. She really is that good.) Pictures of said stuffs will be posted whenever we get around to it.

Foodwise, Kat made some of my favorite non-diet foods, as I believe that I am going to resume my dieting ways in the near future. In addition, we also (sometimes I helped) made some recipes out of a cookbook that we had picked up featuring recipes from all over Russia and the Baltic areas. Croatian meatloaf, a tasty split pea and barley soup, and Russian black bread. My favorite was probably the Beef Stroganov.

There is no wine or mushrooms in this beef stroganov (which is good, since I don't want my wife to die of some weird allergic reaction), but it is both simple and damned tasty. The best part is that it's served over french fries. Yes, french fries. This beef stroganov exists on no healthy diet anywhere. And it's really good. It would make excellent party food really. We might have to spring that on the fellow Bunkerites at some point.

On to the shelter portion of this post, Kat and I have found a nice little house for rent at a place called Sun Valley down in Pekin. Nice place, nice neighborhood, and nice management. They're very down with modifying the house, painting walls, putting up cabinets, etc. Should be good stuff.

And finally, moving. My roommate, the aforementioned Mr. Allen, is going to be leaving the Peoria area fairly soon. In order to get him packed up and out of here, I've gotten some packing done. It's really quite nice, as I can walk around my closet now that everything in there is either a day-to-day item or securely boxed up. All of my hobbies have their own toolbox now (silver/jewelry, blacksmithing, woodworking, leatherworking, fishing, brewing, misc. outdoors). All of my books are likewise boxed up except for the ones I'm keeping out until I move in mid-March.

The only furniture I own (that's here) is my bed, two chairs (one of which I'm sitting in), a small table I use for hobbies, and the table that this monitor is on. It's going to be interesting living in a mostly-empty apartment, and I'm looking forward to it.
